This month marks Stress Awareness month: a time to raise awareness of the causes of personal stress and how to overcome them.

Over the pandemic, mindfulness should come as a priority to everyone, including children. The national month is held every year to inform people about the dangers of stress and ways to cope with yours. It is centred around paying attention to what is happening around you, but also understanding your own thoughts and feelings.

Children have had a stressful year with in-consistent classroom teaching and home-schooling. As the Easter holidays are approaching, they will yet again be out of the classroom after only three weeks. Use this month to raise awareness about mindfulness to your children, allow them to recognise their inner emotions and react to their feelings in positive ways.

Your child's mental health is always of importance. To help them during Stress Awareness Month, here are some mindfulness activities:

Gratitude
We teach our children to say thank you in exchange for a kind gesture, which then becomes a reflex your entire life. Building an understanding of gratitude takes practice but can lead to heightened sensitivity to the experience of gratitude in the future.

Mindful colouring
Colouring is key in developing calm and creative skills. Mindful colouring allows us to focus on how we choose and apply colour in a particular design to carry our awareness to the present moment.

Glitter jar
Creating a glitter jar is a fun afternoon activity that represents the mind settling. Children sometimes act out on their problems, rather than sharing them verbally. A glitter jar acts as a powerful metaphor for mindfulness vs the chaos of life.

Nature walk
A nature walk will encourage your child to use their 5 senses and connect to the world around them. Before the walk, ask your child to take 3 deep breathes and verbally express how they feel about going on this walk.

We offer a range of products that can have a calming effect on children. From finger painting to sand and water play as well as other sensory activities will benefit children during Stress Awareness Month.
